Types of Fillings

When a dentist removes the decayed portion of the tooth and fills it with another substance, this procedure is called a filling. Many materials can be used in the filling but the most common ones are composite and amalgam.

Composite Fillings

A composite filling is a tooth-colored filling placed for a small- and medium-sized restoration. It involves minimal removal of the tooth structure than amalgam fillings. Composite fillings are well suited for treating front and highly visible teeth, mainly for aesthetic reasons.

They can also be used when repairing chipped and broken teeth as well as decreasing the gap between teeth.

Amalgam Fillings

These are also known as silver fillings and are made with a combination of metal and mercury. Metal gives it strength and durability. It can also last for 10-15 years compared to composite fillings which can last around 5 years.

They are used on the back teeth on the chewing surfaces because of their strength. After the filling is placed, your tooth may experience a temporary period of cold and hot sensitivity.

I was having an issue and called to see how soon I could get in to see Dr. Dhami. I was in his chair within 3 hours of my call. Everyone is so thoughtful and kind. I tell Dr. Dhami I don't know what I'd do without him and it's true!
