Common Causes for Extractions
- Severe decay or infection which can't be treated with a root canal
- Advanced gum disease which is affecting the supporting tissue and bone structure
- Sometimes baby teeth need to be extracted if it's blocking an adult tooth
- During orthodontic treatment, teeth may be extracted to create space
Complications Post Tooth Extraction
Infections, bleeding, swelling, bruising, and dry socket are some of the common complications that may arise after tooth extractions.
What is Dry Socket?
The space in the bone where the tooth was removed is called the socket. After the tooth is extracted, a blood clot forms in the socket to protect the bone and the nerves.
Sometimes the clot is disturbed and that leaves the bone and nerve exposed to air, fluid, food or anything else that enters the mouth, which irritates the exposed bone and causes pain. If dry socket happens make appointment immediately.
